E90 320i Battery replacement

Hi guys,

Battery not holding charge & needing to be boosted at times for car to start. I'm planning to replace the battery this weekend.

My friendly BMW service advisor recommended I go to Battery centre & not waste the extra money on a BMW battery. I've got a quote for a Raylite 80A 668 battery @ R1400.

Some articles I've read mention registering of the new battery with the onboard computer so that the car adapts charge rate correctly. I'm assuming Battery centre would not be able to do this. I don't want to damage the new battery or continue to have issues. Please advise if I need to be worried about this?

I paid R1500 for my battery from the dealers,i say go to dealers, the battery was R1700,so they deduct R171 for my old battery, hence i paid R1500

BMW batteries are basically Raylite, so nothing wrong with that. You will need to have the battery registered for the IBS system to know that there is a new battery fitted. If battery centre can't do that, then you will need to find someone with a cable and typical diagnostics software to do this for you, or a third party auto electrician should be able to do this.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Replaced the battery today, guy who installed knew nothing about registering the battery, will need to find someone to do it as suggested.
