I had the 320 manual for 3 weeks as complimentary car..in manual it does it's job quite nicely around town...the auto I only ever test drove from the dealer wen I was buyin my traktor...seemed bit underpowered..jus remember tho if you want it for everyday work and wana save fuel..but you flat foot it off every stop..you not gonna be fuel efficient at all..
gues in auto if you want a comfy car to work everyday..for it's price and considering it's a bm it might be fine :)..lol If I was using it mostly to work and back in heavy traffic I would still take an auto..i believe the auto on the highway wouldn't be bad..there are alota them around and alota ppl are happy with them..so jus remember it depends on the individual in the end..If it makes you happy..it's a bm and a good car :) GL

I used to own an e46 318i auto. It had the N46 engine. The same as in the e90 320i.

I loved my car and did not regret it for one second. It was not a quarter mile specialist, but it was no slouch. It was quick enough for me on take off ( at that time ). I believe that the 320i is a good car. It gets a lot of criticism, but must be given the benefit of being a good car built by the most reputable brand in the world.

That being said. I have owned a few other bmws. If I knew then what I knew now, I and had the opportunity to choose an entry level e90, I would choose a 320d. One with the 130kw engine. If I could afford the LCI 320d, then that would be my choice.

The power on the 320d is awesome. Lots of low down grunt. And will also move like a rocket on the freeway.

And if you get tired of the power, then it will be much easier to get extra oomph out of a 320d that it will be out of a 323i. With software alone you could gain 20 - 40kw and lots more torque. You couldn't get that much out of a petrol. And with hardware, the numbers only get higher.

And a big plus to the diesel is thesuperb economy.

My bet is to go for a diesel. In auto they're still great.

Please do yourself a favour and drive a 320i and a 320d and feel the difference for yourself. Its like night and day to me. And the diesel will give u much better economy.
