Please advise me. I am about to buy a E90 3 series diesel, at first I thought 320d, but adding a few $ one can get the 330d. Is this advisable? Its fuel consumption is a bit more, but the rest is so much better..

1. I am an estate agent so i drive in town most of the times
2. I love camping, so its gonna pull a caravan!!

WHAT WILL BE THE RIGHT CHOICE?

You won't go wrong with a 320d! The 330d has more oomph, but worse consumption. But either way both are amazing cars.

Yep, the 320d will be marginally better on consumption around town. However, if you do a lot of town driving, then I would assume an automatic would be your preferred choice - then a 330d makes much more sense as it has a lot more low down torque to make it more relaxing drive around town.

Both would pull a caravan, but with the 330d you won't even notice it's there :fencelook:

My suggestion is to go test drive both cars first, if you can.

I had a 320d and was powerfull enough..

But if you need more power, like most people do, then 330d is the obvious choice.

So you drive a 330d ? whats your take on the car, i see avg of 9km/l, whats it like only in town? around 10km/liter ?

I actually use my 330d as my daily driver so it does mostly "town" driving. I rarely see consumption above 10l/100km on my daily trip to work and back (between Midrand and Bryanston, using the back roads). Click on my Fuelly link for a detailed breakdown - however, just to give you an idea, since I've got the car, it has not left Gauteng yet, so it has done mostly short trips even when on the highways.

If you want a manual, both the 320d and 330d are decent, but IMO, if you go automatic, the 330d is a bit more relaxing to drive overall.

 330d very little diff in fuel consumption, I would imagine the 330d would have better consuption when towing.

what worries me is on fuelly the one 330d is around 10km/l city driving.. hoped it would be better.. anyway 10 isn't to bad for a 3.0L diesel

When I was looking at a Diesel, I decided on the 320D, but what drove my choice might not drive yours. I usually do look at many things, cost, km's maintenance, etc.

Take your budget and start shopping around.

Go to drive both and make a list of your wants and needs, that's the best advice I can give you.

Good luck, and enjoy the shopping:thumbs:
