Read the last paragraph of the second image from the owners handbook. I'm not sure where the top one is from but it indicates no wear to engine and starter.

But you have a diesel, I'm sure they run off fumes when idling.

The problem that may shock a few people is the fact that a diesel car will run on the oil of a blown turbo and is impossible to switch off once this happens. With a petrol car you just switch off the ignition. With a diesel car sit back and watch the motor explode.

I had that problem when my bakkie's turbo blew. I Just Put it in gear and released the clutch with my handbrake on and that stalled the engine easily enough. The only problem with that is, if you don't do it correctly the running engine can pull your vehicle through a wall!!

The E90 320d's have strong turbos, I know quite a few guys who bought them secondhand with between 70k km and 100k km on the and after 100k+ km of driving they had no issues. But then again it is how you look after your car that counts not just the quality of the build.:smashScreen:

My two cents....
There seems to be a big concern on turbo failure and the risks of buying an older turbo diesel because if this unknown timebomb....But the concern deserve the attention it has?
My turbo on my 320d went at about 120000kms. I pulled it out, reconditioned it at an engineer, and put it back myself, Cost about R4500. Ok to be fair you will pay more if you don't do the work yourself
Then later my alternator went, and the a new one cost over R7500.
On my other e90 the waterpump was now replaced and I paid almost R10000.
So my point is both these other items that can happen cost more or the same as a turbo.
