I got 5.2 on my trip down to EL, cruise control on 140km/h. around here in city traffic I get 5.7-5.8

Hi Guys

Did another trip down, and this time got
Jhb - Dbn 6.0l/100km @ 125km/h (as per obc)
Dbn - Jhb 6.2l/100km @ 123km/h (as per obc)

Also to note this was the first trip down only on the N3, I normally take the old roads here and there to avoid toll and pigs! So my previous posts were also travelling on old roads, I'm sure that influenced the consumption. But even still my consumption seems higher than most on here. Service due shortly, hope that helps...

For your average speed to be 125km/h on the obc mean you would have got to durban in under 5hours( excluding stops). Whats speeds were you travelling? The faster you got the heavier it will be.

My average speed down to durban is around 100-105km/h on the OBC and my cruise control is set on 120-125 in 120 zones, 105-110 in 100 zones and 85 in 80 zones

Trip up was 5 hours 45 minds, with a half hour stop.

What are your thoughts on the consumption, i had to go down twice in 2 months. Anyway my results.

Last Month:
Jhb - Dbn - 6.0l/100km & 130km avg speed.
Dbn - Jhb - 6.8l/100km & 125km avg speed.

This month:
Jhb - Dbn - 5.7l/100km & 126km avg speed.:rollsmile:
Dbn - Jhb - 6.6l/100km & 124km avg speed.

On a straight six petrol...that's idling...let alone driving!!!

You have standard wheels? would have expected the true speed to be a bit closer.

Just to relate, I did a trip from Centurion to Margate in an A6 2.0Tdi last month, with the car fully loaded wth the dog nogal.

I put in R750 on Thursday, which doesnt fill the tank.....got me to Durbs, Thursday night, had a bit of running around to do in Durbs next day to town (stop/start driving) for some provisions, and left in the afternoon to Margate. Reached Margate for the long weekend, did all the usual running trips to the various places. Only refilled on Monday (R750) on the trip to leave KZN to Gauteng, which included a stopover in Durbs to visit family at various places around Durbs. We averaged around 140km/h on freeway driving with the aircon running all the time. I was quite happy with the consumption considering we where fully loaded and the size of the A6 being a 5 series sized vehicle, it does surprise to get this sort of consumption in a larger vehicle. Think we would have covered about 950kms on each trip.

If any one doubts diesel and the benefits of the fuel consumption and drivability of the vehicles, they must be smoking something or never experianced it.

Also another point which I appreciate with diesel vehicles is the ability to skip a fuel stop in general. I usually can drive straight to Durbs, with the diesel car, and skip the normal stop over in Bergview for fuel if I'm using the 325i. If we do stop its to use the toilets or stretch the legs, and not waste time refuelling, which is very usefull when its long weekends and the whole of Gauteng is hitting the roads to the East Coast. The last long weekend in August the garages where extremely busy en-route to Durbs but we just drove straight through.
