E90 320d for an F30 330d? Paid up vs finance?

I would buy the 330d but bide my time until close to the new 3 series launch. Knowing your plan, you can save the hypothetical installment in the interim and get a higher spec/newer/lower mileage one. There isn't really long to wait.

None of us really know just how much kak some people are going to be in 12 months from now... desperation is already high. Those people will be in a hurry to unload the cars that they have broken GFV terms on or have big residuals on that are way higher than the market value of the car (eg: 2013 cars purchased new for R500K, with some leftover baggage loaded onto it that the owner wants to sell in 2018/9 for R480K... but most will be forced to either live with paying off the car for another 3 or 4 years or settling for market value/trading and cutting their losses.

But right now I am trying really hard to avoid it as the 330d will be double the money I sell the E90 for..

I asked myself a similar question a few months back? At double the price, is it double the car?

Answer is NO.

I ended up getting rid of the E90 320d, and getting the E90 330d. I wont say the E90 and the F30 330d is the same car, but I was looking at the R200 000 vs R400 000 sum, and to reiterate what I said above, there is no way the F30 with its newer tech is worth double the price.

F30 prices should drop significantly once the new 3 series comes out. Over and above the market should be flooded with F30 330d's. Wait a year or 2, your pocket will thank you.

My sentiments exactly
excellent points here thanks bud

As long as the 320d is still reliable, I'd say keep it. Lots of guys on here talking about theirs seeing well beyond 200 000km. Why not hold onto it.

Keep the 320d.
Plug in what you would have paid in to financing the 330d into a savings account (or the access facilty in your bond for a tax free interest gain).
Dip into that fund for the odd maintenance payment for the 320d.
After x years, sell the 320d and use the savings that would have accrued to buy a newer 3 series.

Note that the depreciation on your 320d has already passed the worst stage.

However, if you can afford to buy a 330d (noting that it too will go out of plan one day and cost to maintain) and can afford the added economic costs of our dire SA situation, then go for it.

Thanks bud, sage advice this!!! , this is what my head says, but the heart... esih

Sell me the E90 :smilebounce:

But yes, you wil alwasy loose on cars and new car prices are just going up staring at them.

I think doing the move spending a bit more on newer car is what it is, and yes from the E90 to the F30 tech has changed A LOT and then going to a 330d will be an awesome upgrade

You guys will definitely know if I do make that decision , I do want someone I know to benefit further from this car, either a family member or a fellow fanatic

Exactly what I was going to say.. Buy at the right time (Jan/Feb next year) - market is usually quiet and you can snap up a good deal - also if buying from a dealer, start the process around mid month and neg the hell out of it, they will want to close it before month end, more so in the quiet months. Also will be closer to the next gen..

Side note: Get into a 30d and you will never be able to get into a 20d again, so proceed with caution!

If you are stuck in manily heavy traffic, you need to weigh up the power advantage of a 330d vs the fuel penalty (and increased purchase price) over a 320d. Also, I would guess that on a relative basis, the 330d would lose more as % of the purchase price vs a 320d?

320d is a 90% time of car.

For that 10% of time when the road opens up and you can drop the shackles, get a 330d....

I am a 90% guy, so a 320d suits me fine.

Total heart vs head decision. But being the petrolheads we are, the heart normal wins over, eventually. It sounds like you want to need the 330d. Either way its a good place to be in. You have a nice car and you might be able to get into a nicer/newer one by incurring a bit of debt.

Yes its been really good to me, and current mileage is relatively low to year model, with all the advice im leaning on keeping it, at least until F30 330d prices drop further.

Very neat car you have there Bud!

One day I want to move up from my 320i to the 320D or even 330D.

Good luck with the decision!

Tough time to be buying a used F30 as already mentioned on the thread. If you can wait then get one once the G series is here and prices tank. You could get much more car. My 2c.

But the 330d is a no brainer, consumption makes it an easy car to afford to daily and performance is up there with the best of them.. :cartel:

Just the sound, that is the only reason I don't drive a diesel anymore, the sound never worked for me. That is just me personally. :=):

Pieter YOLO: live for the now baby, I know I am 38 and still live with my folks, but screw it!

330d with a DP & mid box delete doesn't sound like a diesel at all. :smilebounce:
