Hi All,

Not sure if this post was created before, if so, apologies.

I have a E90 320d, the 120kW one. Planning to do a downpipe end of the month. I am wanting a nice sound to it, like the exhaust turbo sound. Brrrr haha. How would i achieve this sound with the 320D?

Appreciate any help I can get!
Cheers!!

Hi RiyaadK

That sound can be changed even by tweaking your current exhaust. Find a person good at such and it'll be sorted. But do know that your fuel consumption will likely increase

Hi,

Thanks for that! Whats the stock exhaust for the 320d? Who would you recommend for the exhaust? Could it stay single or would I need to do a double pipe?

Would I need to put a bigger exhaust system such as a 63mm or so? I dont wanna loose back pressure though. I was told my stock exhaust is a 57mm. Not so sure about that.

Was told by folk in the racing game that one must be careful with diesel's and exhaust diameters, if you go bigger you can lose torque etc....:tiptoe:

I would suggest de-cat if it has not been done as yet with those km's.

Yeah.. thats why I dont wanna change the exhaust really unless I know its safe for the motor. So downpipe will be done soon, really just want that nice sound like the golfs 6 etc

Fit a 63 mm downpipe then remove your backbox and straight pipe. If you want dual tail pieces you can get the Y piece. If you want it louder then remove the whole exhaust and straight pipe with 63mm right through.

Yoh! Thats back pressure out the window, thats not a option for me. 63mm downpipe is being fitted though.

You don't need back pressure on a diesel. After you done with DP ask them to remove the backbox and just have a listen to it

Why do you want to sound like a Golf 6, if you drive a BMW? :dunno:

Hahaha - not like it, I want the sound the new turbo cars make. The exhaust turbo sound, not like the actual car. Just that boost sound.

As Waseem has said bud, 63mm downpipe with 63mm straight through, no backbox needed. I had 76mm downpipe into 63mm straight through on my 330d, sounded mad!

If straight through is a bit loud for you, then put a backbox on that's all you need.

Back pressure on any turbo application is not needing or desired.

How is fuel consumption going to increase if driving manner is identical.

Have 76mm DP on my E90 IIRC into the stock exhaust. Centre box removed as well with stock back box. Sound is quite nice, have not heard it on the outside nicely myself but the guys on here have said it sounds nothing like a diesel on acceleration.

Fuel consumption decreased marginally just by the way, driving style unchanged. The only time it goes up is when I want to hear the sound :)

Flash tune is pending so consumption expected to decrease further.

Exactly what I'm bout to do! Been doing my research and they sound quite nice and aggro when downpipe is fitted. Keeping my stock exhaust as well!
