e90 320d auto question

Hey guys,

Looking at moving from the 323 to a 320d and was considering buying an auto box since I sit in traffic more often than not so makes sense to buy the auto as its more relaxing (and have the option to go to manual shifting if I want to play).

Drove one yesterday and was pretty impressed with it, but wanted to ask, how reliable are the auto boxes in the 07/08 e90's ?

Do they give hassles or are they pretty much bullet proof?

Thanks.

Diesels do very well with an auto box..I find that the torque is evenly distributed as compared to a manual box. Go for it:thumbsup:

We had a 06 model and drove it till last year, no problem what so ever. The auto box on the diesel is the way to go:thumbsup:

The '07 320d I had, had the older motor which had a bit of turbo lag around the bottom. But you get used to it quickly. The new ones with the 135kw motor is fantastic and pulls like a train from the word go with no turbo lag.

well its either a 320d auto or (dont kill me) a audi a4 2.0t manual.
a4 i imagine will "feel" faster because engine can rev higher and they dont look too bad, but i really like BMW, have since varsity days and audi i have never really had such a soft spot for, but their cars nowadays do look quite good and interiors are on par with BMW.

What do you guys think will be more fun car to drive and not as expensive to maintain in the long run, 320d or a4...

The BMW will most likely be cheaper to maintain, the audi has a cambelt and that service will set you back around R12k (every 120kkm IIRC), but the audi is quite a bit faster than the BMW, go test drive them and then decide..

just got to make the time to go try an audi, can't find any dealers with one in my area though.

:spit: yeah i know, but when audi does you a favor and "takes it off your hands" they sell it on for R50k more...
good point.

has anyone heard of any e90 320d's suffering a "runaway", or do they perhaps have a clever safety mechanism to stop that happening?

bit worried to buy a diesel now to be honest (even though chances of it happening are probably non-existent...)

I am planning to buy a 2009 320D E-90 BMW AUTOMATIC.
Its pre-owned by BMW in rosebank, has 87000km. FSH.
Any views on the vehicle?
Fuel consumption?
Current owner or previous owners, did you'll experience any problems?

Thanking you'll in advance.
