E90 3 series mags on a E39 528i

I am thinking of replacing my standard mags with 2006 323i E90 mags, but wonder if they will fit? My car has 225/55 x 16" tyres, and the 323i has 225/50 x 16". The higher profile should not be a problem, but what about the offset and hole pcd? I do not want to make any modifications either, so if they don`t fit, it will be too bad!

Have you got the style number of the mags or pics, then I can check the offsets.

Hi, thanks for the reply. THis site doesnt allow me to send pics - so if you email me, I can send you the pic of the wheels I want to put on.

Regards

It's a bit hard to say since I don't have a pic of your E39 wheels, but the E39 528 would have something like these, which is all 7JX16 ET:20

Morne, check out www.realoem.com to see if you can spot your E39 mags.

Hi,
The first pic of the 3 you posted for my 528 show the mags I currently have. So I guess the E90 does not fit?

What does the ET stand for?

A couple problems with a 3 series wheel on your E39:

3 Series E90/91/92/93 = PCD 5x120, Centre bore 72.5mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 30-45
5 Series E39 = PCD 5x120, centre bore 74.0mm and M12x1.5 bolt thread. ET 15-25

1. Centre bore - You would have to get the centre bored out to the correct diameter.

2. Offset - How far in or out the wheel sits. The 3 series wheel will sit too far into the arch and could touch the strut. It means you will have to run a big spacer to bring the wheel to the correct offset.

I thought so - thank you for the information. I dont think many people realise the damage that can occur if you fit incorrect mags - or spend the money and have to do modifications. I do not believe in making up spacers and/or drilling holes bigger in order to fit mags, since they were designed to work under specific conditions.
My current mags will just have to do!
