Hey guys, I just bought a 320i, its my first car so i thought i would go for something light but still BMW, anyway, my fuel consumption is sitting at around 15. Its crazy cos Iv read up and it is 11.5 in the book, and there are people who are getting 10.

I just sent it in for service, nothing is wrong with the car at all.What could they have missed?

a lot of what your consumption is is up to how you drive obviously,
are you driving it like you stole it?

my e46 330i normal mixed driving gets around 11l/100,

assuming its your first car, how long have you been driving for? you learn over time how to drive your car efficiently, heard of e39 540i drivers getting around 8l/100:skit:

I try not to put foot. And i only drive it to work and back, and the occasional drive to a casino about 30 km away. I hardly reach 120.. saying that, i do take off fast so maybe i should stop things like that.

There is something you can try and see if it works.

You know that if you driving the car to work and back that the fuel consumption sits on 15L. How many times do you let the cruise control take over from you, most probably never. Try and do the following:

When going to work and back;

* Use less force when pulling away and try and go to 3000 - 3500 RPM in first and second. Once in 3rd go for the speed limit and then put her in 4th and cruise control. See where the L/100km needle sits while the car is on auto cruise control (changes gears to keep the car under the 10 mark) try and learn from the car itself. This helped me to reduce from 14L to 10.8L. Try and keep the RPM's below 3500RPM
* Monitor the time and traffic, leave 10 or 15min earlier or if you can later also and see where the needle of the L/100km goes during these times. If you don't do constant speed and have to keep shifting due to traffic it will eat through your fuel, try to get constant speed, this helps.

The average fuel consumption in town for our big cars (330i and up) is around 11 - 14L which I am just over 11.8L now with 20% highway and 80% city traffic.

But Try and cruise control where you can and see what the car does by monitoring the L/100km needle and learn from there.

And PS: speed has nothing to do with your fuel consumption unless you flying, it is about changing gears in the power band of the car, like if you have max torque at 3000rpm then change gear there and stay within 500rpm from that up and down.

Damn that is heavy.

I drive an auto 320i from JHB south to Sandton CBD and then to Bryanston. A lot of stop and go traffic. I average between 8.4 - 9.

I tend to floor it in between stops but most of the way I am cruising about 60kms/h. I do just over 100kms a day

Its heavy, slow, and over priced. But thats just my opinion. Don't u just hate it when a car 1 tenth of the value passes u? Yeah. I cant stomach that.
