E87 120D M47 - Common issues? Im new

Congrats on the new car , many happy miles
is this the N47 or N47T? the N47T was the updated version that had prior timimg chain and EGR issues corrected

- check damper pulley for cracks or wear
- throw in some Diesel injector cleaner every 5000km
- the slight gear leaver vibration is normal unless it feels very unnatural
- if the mileage is high I suggest a decat and downpipe
- change oil every 10,000km

Hey Momo1,

This is the M47 not the N47 motor as its the 2006 model. N47 motors came out from 2007+

From what ive been reading, the M47 did not have timing chain issues but the N47 had the issues.

The gear leaver doesnt vibrate, it just feels loose moving it side to side (like when checking if the car is in neutral but while driving. But its still when standing at idle.

Honestly never new that , I know the M47s came in the E46s, so its a bit weird that BMW used 3 different engines in the same variant for the same model.
always thought it was just the N47 and the updated N47T.:hammerhead:

Wheels will def be first on the list of mods, but wont come as soon as id like. Will first go through the car cleaning the interior, Sorting out the radio and some basic oil service etc.

Ok so just an update, The BMW is a 120d Exclusive model.

Not sure what the differences are between all of the models, probably aesthetics and features?

Exclusive package means leather seats, multifunction steering, cruise control and extended lights on the E87 AFAIK. Stock the E87 came poorly spec'd seeing as it was more of a budget BMW back then.

First sit in traffic this morning to work and she did very well, no issues.

Passanger seat occupancy detector light is on, If someone sits in the passanger seat the seatbelt warning makes a noise so it is detecting that someone is sitting on the seat and the ding ding noise goes away if the seatbelt is plugged in but this will get sorted by the dealer.

Is this car registered in your name? If so was wondering how the dealer got it through roadworthy as they normally will not certify it for roadworthy if there is a red light on on the dashboard.
