E87 120D Loss of power. Turbo Problem?

Finally have a answer.

The car is at Turboworks Centurion. They are saying the compressor wheel on the Turbo broke due to something that came in through the air fitler? Apparently the shaft of this wheel is still intact and that is why there was no smoke/oil out of the exhaust.

I'll head over there myself a little later after work to see what's cooking, but what do you guys think of this?

unlikely.. unless airfilter collapsed or something broke off somewhere.. also ask where did the pieces of the shattered compressor wheel go? hope they clean out the intake/intercooler/pipes and make sure they find all the pieces..

Heh, well. The insurance wants a full report first, so let see what they come out with.

Ouch! I suspect mine is going to look the same in the next few kms.

I hope your warranty covers it otherwise you are in for about a R10k+ bill.

They covered the whole bill so far :) I'm just paying for the service. But we'll see a little later when I get it back. Can't WAIT \o/

Wow, that is quite an impressive failure. I do not understand what got sucked in, and how it got there. Hopefully it did not get to the engine.

Cool got the car back. Boosting again to her old self (yay), however the turbo sounds COMPLETELY different. The whistling is a little louder than normal, even from the exhaust it sounds different. Is this normal for a different turbo to sound different... Probably makes no sense. :p

Hmm. Sorry for continuing this thread on forever. So the turbo sounds are defenitely different. Can't figure out if its good or bad. However, after shutting the car off ( i let it idle for 1/2min ), I'm hearing quite a bit of popping sounds around the turbo area. Is this normal? I'm figuring its to do with the cold etc, but I'm paranoid as heck now :)

Actually it suppose to be more silent, no whistle sounds. Mine was changed recently and it is silent.

Did they flush your inter-cooler?

They did yes. I do see on the invoice however that they have removed the Catalytic Converter. Initially I thought they were going to replace it and not remove it. I guess thats why its louder than normal.

hah, its sounds like a plane when idling now due to the new whistle it got :D
