E83 X3 rear wheel heating up

Hey all
I would just like some info and or confirmation.

So I had to take my daughters x3 in as the drivers side handbrake shoes had somehow come loose and was clanking around.
So mechanic has the shoes relined and outs it all back.
I collect the vehicle take it home and next morning take it to gearbox place to do gearbox oil filter and oil service.

So to make a short story long. I get the vehicle back to late afternoon.
So learner driver daughter wants to drive, so off we go. As we get out of town she speeds up to about 100km/h I start to notice that the car has a nasty vibration almost feels like back wheels are really out of balance.
So as a good dad I am I kick her out of the driver seat, turn down the blady music and close the sunroof ( blady young kids of today hahaha)
I drive the vehicle and the more I speed up the worse it gets.

So I get on the phone and KAK out the gearbox place about why they stuffed it up and what could be wrong. Anyway cause it is late I get told please bring it in on Monday morning so that we can have a look. When we get back home come inside have a smoke, I decide I want to check tyre pressure cause I know the X3 are very sensitive ( like a hormonal teenager at that time of month). While checking I noticed that the passenger back wheel is really hot. So hot that after a coiple seconds you burn your fingers.

So I can safely assume it isn't the gearbox ( damn now I gotta phone them and say sorry) but rear brakes.
What confuses me is if the handbrake shoes where over adjusted surely they would quickly grind themselves down?
Secondly why when driving around town not exceeding 80km/h do the brakes not get hot enough to cause that vibration.

I would appreciate your thoughts guys.
Thansk
