E83 Clock Spring Issues

Hi all
I've been having issues with the steering wheel controls again in that switches did not work or light up randomly and horn is not working. Got a new clock spring and fitted it today and still having the same issues - no horn, controls light up now but do not work or turn off and on randomly. The cruise control light appears on the dash so it looks to be good. My wipers also appear to be functioning better. For s simple plug and play part this should have been straightforwad but i'm at a total loss now.
Has anyone experienced these issues before or can provide some guidance as to what to check to get everything functional again. Maybe it's time to offload it - 20 years old and 420000kms on the clock but still runs well.
Look forward to the replies.

I had to replace the clock spring twice some time ago...yes the cruise control, horn and turn signal was affected if I remember correctly.. I also remember one of the connections had worked its way loose.
In your case I think the system needs to be reset. Id disconnect the main power source then reconnect after an hour or so...then monitor the functioning of the effected components. Is the clock spring OEM?

Hi. Thanks for the response.
No, the clock spring is from Masterparts. Indicators wipers all fine now and buttons light up, just won't work the radio or the horn. Removed it all again today and reassembled and still the same. From what i saw online, no coding etc is necessary on this car so has to be something else. Checked fuses as well so all is good that side. I'll locate and test the horn on Thursday when i'm doing the rear brakes otherwise i'll be taking Webuycars up on their offer at the end of May.

Hi, So on my E46 had the same if not similar issue, check the ignition switch. black box behind where you put the key in ignition. Hope I am making sense, Had to open mine clean the pins inside all is good now. Google for videos. My symptoms, Radio not working, No hooter, Brake lights staying on.

Thanks for that bit of info. Would never have thought to look at the ignition switch. Will check it out on Thursday.

I am having problems with the intermittent wipers (out of sync, slow to start)
In my research I've read the clock spring sends a message to the wiper system.
Figured my c-spring was the problem... replaced it and no success.
Anyone in for a used c-spring? Plus levers.
