E70 X5 (no start issues)

Good day all,

I'm in desperate need of solid advise on what to do with my X5.
it's an E70 4.8i petrol 2009 model I think. car has been with us since brand new & spend a good year at Ross Duncan in midrand after it had computer box issues & this & that blaaah blaaah blah blah.

Car started giving issues again last year & going into limp mode with the error on screen "ENGINE POWER NO LONGER" . if you cut the power, it would start again & exit limp mode.

Now few months ago while my lil sister was driving, it cut the power completely & has refused to start again. I'd like to take it to an expert, but currently cash is a bit tight and X5s can be money pits.

My question, "What can I check or try trouble shoot myself before giving up & going to pay R50,000.00 for someone to just plug in a diagnosis machine at a big name garage and tell me to change a fuse".
Your help would really be appreciated.
Thank you

Personally I'd take the car to Martin's motorsport in JHB (http://www.martinsmotorsport.co.za/). We've used them for a couple of years and they really seem to know what they are doing, they work smart and offer very good value.

Alternatively, maybe get one of those UBD2 readers and a proper app like "Carly for BMW Pro" (gives you most of the detailed BMW codes broken down) if you feel a bit more adventurous. UBD2 can be picked up for less than R500 and the app less than R1k.

Good luck

I would say have the battery checked (lack of use from it standing may have caused an issue) - not sure who does this in SA, but low voltage causes all sorts of problems.
