When did the X5 get the 8 speed auto? Year and month if possible please. And, did the X3 also get it the same time? Thanks!

On the X5 it was 2010, when the LCI's were launched. Not sure about X3, probably around 2011/2012.

Thanks, reason i want to know is that i have heard of a 2010 X5 3ld with 111k kms for R250k, fully loaded and in excellent condition. Was wondering if it has the 8 speed (should actually ask the owner but him being in the medical profession would probably not know :skit::skit:) Only kidding! Was considering buying it but am so happy with my old 2005 X3 2ld manual which is giving me about 7l/100kms (mostly 30/70 town/open road) that i am not sure if i really need it. Got the X3 for a bargain and cannot believe how much i am enjoying it!! Having sold both my old E60 530d and X5 diesel to family members i am now in the position to get myself something interesting, but not sure what i want. Was thinking maybe 3l Z4? I am after economy, so will probably not be happy for long with a petrol car. Was thinking a 2ld X3 with the eight speed box could be the answer! They are about as large as my old X5 and will also give about 7l/100km or am i wrong? Am actually really enjoying the manual shift on my present X3 immensely! Did the 3l diesel X3 (E83) ever came out with a manual box? That could be the answer to my dreams! Funny how when the new year comes around my itching starts!:RedNo:

The 8 speed came with the LCI, along with the new iDrive interface (with the 7 buttons around the controller, as opposed to 1). If the owner does not know if it has the 8 speed, just ask how many buttons the iDrive controller has.

AFAIK, the gearknob is the same between the 2 models though, so you can't say from that.

From the pictures it seems as if the controller has two buttons to the rear and could be five in front of the round controller. Could it be the 8 speed??
