How good are they? All you owners of E70 X5's please respond and tell me what problems/faults you are experiencing or have had with your cars? I am looking at maybe buying a 3l diesel but was wondering if there are any problems carried over from the old E53 X5 e.g. door actuators, rear air suspension, auto gearbox problems, missing pixels, rattling rear doors, etc. Is the ride quality with the sport pack acceptable? Must say, had only minimal problems with my 2003 E53 X5 diesel auto in the time i had it and got reasonable economy of about 11km/l on the open road at 120kph. Would assume that the later 160kw motor and six speed auto should improve on that? Thanks for taking time to read this!

Mechanical - I had one small problem with the sunroof switch. I had the e53 before and the e70 is a much better car overall.
Fuel consumption in town about 9km/l and 12.5km/l open road, msport with 315 at the rear, it makes a difference in consumption, but the looks and performance makes up.
Got the spare wheel option with non run flats, R 10 000 for four.
Currently on 120 k's and no problems yet.
Mine pre lci still got the six speed auto, mid 2010 got the 8 speed.
e53 had pixel problems e70 is fine.
Excellent vechile!!

Nice! Talking about the sunroof - does the Panoramic sunroof also have the problem that Gizmo experienced on his X3?

I've got an '07 E70 3.0D with the 6 Speed ZF box - Its currently on 165xxxkm and is still pulling like a train. The build quality is far superior to my '13 F30. It is an 8 year old car now but the interior looks no older than a 2 year old car.

I've got 19" Non Run-flats on with the space saver spare (no air suspension) and the ride quality is superb. One of the best and most comfortable cars I've owned. The comfort heated seats option is a must in my opinion. I've been looking to upgrade to an LCI but finding one with all the bells and whistles (for a reasonable price) is proving to be less than fruitful.

In town stop start traffic it returns 10.8l per 100km on average. On the open road at the national speed limit sees it go down to 8.9l per 100km.

Find a clean, well maintained one, do the Gearbox oil change at ZF, service and change oil at regular intervals (I do it every 7500km) and it will reward you with many trouble free KMs.

Best of luck with the search!! :=):

I had the E53, great car. I have now had my E70 2008 model, for one and a half years,155,000 k's. Faaaantastic car. Great to drive fuel economy good 11,7 l/100in town and I got it down to 7,8 going down to Ballito, with a trailer on the back. Does think twice do it. Find a nice clean one, there are plenty available.

2009 xdrive35d at 79,000kms.

Never had an issue mechanically, only problem is the electric lever not going into sport anymore.

Tyres are pricey too.
