Hi Chaps,

Just been reading/viewing some interesting articles on various forums and You Tube to do with the e60's.

First thing - of y'all that have e60's, how many of you have the "sport" button feature situated behind the gear lever? How many of you with that feature use it and what is your opinion?
I have had 2 530d msports and neither have had that, not my pre LCI or my current 09 LCI. I think I may have seen one before with it. The reason I ask is that there is a nifty hack to enable the feature and install the button to activate it. Has anyone done this? Would be interesting to hear the feedback.

Second thing is to do with the swirl flaps. By all accounts its the 520d that seems to suffer more with the failure. Apparently the LCI 530d's dont suffer from this as there was a factory fix applied - not sure how true though. I have read that this was a very common issue with the e39's. I also have read various comments on other forums that folks who have done the blanking and egr delete have mixed results with e60's. Some have reported a fairly noticeable loss of torque low down? Would be interesting to hear thoughts on this as well and if anyone knows if the LCI's have been rectified or if there have been failures?

Have had a 2008 lci 530d auto motorsport but it also did not have the sport button. Stiaan on the forum had a 2008 also and his did have the sport button with the paddles behind the wheel. As far as i know he did not use it much. I have removed the swirl flaps on all my diesel cars that had them in so all i can say is, remove them for peace of mind. Cannot say that there is a difference in performance with or with out them. I did not feel a difference. At the moment i have a 2005 E60 530d manual and when i removed the swirl flaps one of the flaps was already halfway broken off and stuck fortunately in the open position. I was very fortunate! Very very nice cars and very underrated which is fortunate for us as they are dirt cheap to buy.

From my reading, the lci design of the flaps are way better than pre. Some guys still remove them as preventative maintenance.

The sport button I think is related to sport automatic transmission, it was the only way to get the paddles on the e60. These cars had a tcu with different software which.was supposed to he slightly quicker shifts and other features. If I remember correctly the tcu had a different part number.

Personally I think the button activates the sport mode of the tcu that all tcus have, just.cant access, but guys are adamant there's no difference?

I wonder how this.conpares to xhp?

I have however removed the swirl flaps as a precaution.i do however don't even notice a drop of torque low down.
