Was recently riding along with a friend in his E60 530d when the abs warning came on on the idrive and then after stopping and switching off the car would not start or getting the gearbox out of park. Was standing stuck in the left turning lane so was a bit awkward. After i while i called Garage 808 and the nice lady there suggested i take the gear lever gator off as well as the plastic trim around the gear lever and search for the small lever marked in red to the top right of the gear lever. Did eventually find it and wiggled it and then it was possible to move the gear lever to neutral so we could push the car to the side of the rode. Hope this info helps when you get stuck on the side of the road. Btw., the abs lights and then a lot of lights on the dash was symptomatic of alternator not charging due to worn brushes. My electrician took off the regulator without even removing the alternator and replaced the worn brushes. Put the battery on charge for a while and problem solved!
