That, and the car still does the same thing. So I sent the service manager and BMW customer care an email telling them how unhappy I am with premium branded luxury car thats no more smoother than a metrobus when going through the gears. Now Im booked in for next Tuesday when, hopefully BMW will approve a gearbox service.

Good luck with that! Yes, resetting adaptation won't change a thing, and they will try everything before having to spend money to sort out problems. I thought Alfa dealerships were bad. Seems like it's the same for every brand.

Try this first and see if it helps...

Alot of guys are with all due respect a bit "snobby"...apparently a e39 bmw is too old for them to drive. guys, you dont know what you missing. these things are overbuilt and overengineered. it wasnt rated as the best car (saloon) for a few years in a row.
infact for most of its run during 1996 - 2003. audi and merc and vw couldnt touch it.

i had a 2001 for 4.5yrs and i now have a 530d e39.

i have stripped a number of e39's, with the 530d getting a full interior swap to to bottom... these cars are exceptionally well put together.

and right now, their prices are rock bottom. you can now pickup a good 528i for under 40k...

anyhow..soapbox session over.
