It should be the same as the 320diesel's pulley. The E60 only recently came to South Africa and I'm not sure if anybody has had a problem with it as yet.
We strip smashed BMW's in Cape Town and have found the crank pulley nut on the M47's, M47n's to be the toughest one to crack. If you don't have heavy duty tools and equipment its even worse.
You need to somehow prevent the engine from turning while you loosen the nut - while at the same time avoiding damage to the car, yourself and tools. There are some simple ways and some as extreme as removing the sump and jamming in a piece of wood against the crank.
Good luck (you should be due for some after getting none in Stad de France)
