Hi Guys, I have noticed that my car seems to be using up oil.

I did an oil service last year in oct. then by december the oil light came on and had to fill oil. then the oil light has just come on now again. i dont see an oil leak anywhere. is this common with E46?

Is it a 6cylinder? They are notorious oil drinkers. Mine used to use about 500ml every 2000kms, until I stopped using castrol. Changed to liquimoly 5w40 and it stopped using oil completely.

Check your valve cover gasket. On the E46, these tend to be the source of oil leaks as they age. Also, since it's directly above the manifold the oil burns off and you don't see it easily.

what mileage is your car on?

my E46 318 N42 used oil and it was my solenoid valve o-rings that needed replacement. see here

it stopped using oil for a while, but eventually started again.

in dec i replaced my valve cover gasket and CCV, but it's still using oil.

it might be my valve stem seals and piston rings, but i like to think that because the mileage is fairly high(152 000km) some wear has occured and it is easy for the low viscosity oil to leak in places where it's not suppose to.
