e46 suspension problems

Hi guys,

I have a 2004 330i Sport (lowered suspension). I've done about 209k and the control arms were replaced about 40k back. The steering has suddenly gotten very loose, especially the tail!

Can anyone recommend a good suspension place in Pretoria? I've been to Suspension City in Pretoria West and was quoted almost R9k for the control arms to be replaced again. But I'm worried that maybe its something more serious and doing the control arms (again!) won't sort the problem out.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys
Steve

If your front controls were shot to begin with then more than likely your tie rods weren't far behind.I doubt your control arms are shot again after 40k.Did you replace the bushes when you fit the new arms?Worst case scenario your rack is gone but start with the cheaper stuff. At your mileage it's time for a refresh....and yes holler at Moranor,he'll source just about anything suspension wise :)

LCAB could be shot if el cheapos were fitted.

Take it to a reliable mech and have him check the entire suspension.

I replaced my tie rods, control arms, LCABs, front shocks, top shock mounts, RTABs, everything except shocks from Moranor, LCABs and RTABs powerflex. My car handles better than since I got it. Am at 185k now.

RTAB will most often produce pulling to the side under acceleration and braking

give us more details on when the back kicks out... is it under braking/acceleration/low speed/high speed...

Great stuff,

I just thought that R9000.00 is a rip off for the suspension repair, the parts are not that expensive.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for the suggestions!

The back seems to want to step out when accelerating out of corners. Fairly modest level of acceleration - nothing too hectic.

But steering is also generally very twitchy even when driving at 80km on a flat road. Will give Morano call.

Cheers

and if Kempton Park isn't too far, then I would luv the opportunity to do the labour fitment....once you have recieved the "quality" parts from Moranor...

or alternatively we could try to source the parts for you from the various spares dealers in our area, but not always guaranteed that they will have them all in stock ...so the best success is to source thru Moranor.
