E46 SMG problems

morning ladies

been away from the forum toooo long now, missed it bad.
anyway, i got issues with my E46 auto tranny.

my smg light comes on here and there, when driving, sometimes it feels as if im dragging a clutch, high revs then it kicks into gear this is usually from stand still. also when it shifts into 5th it feels like it drops power, like the pause between gears is too long. :argh:

anyone got any ideas on what this could be?
ideas on the prices for another gear box?

Is your car an auto or smg.

They're actually very different. The smg has paddle shifters on the steering wheel (E46) whilst the auto does not.


If it a smg then you could be experiencing a pump failure, or a clutch failure or a number of other failures.


Best to take it to a reputable mechanic. I recommend tunetech in jhb.

goodness, my bad, its just an auto with the tiptronic, tune tech, thats shawn sings place???

Do a search for the salmon pink e46 smg relay on this forum. I posted a part number etc. and it takes a few mins to sort out. It costs abt R160 bucks and tends to be the first point of diagnosing the intermittent SMG cog light
