E46 Power Steering Pump - where to buy ?

Good evening all, I have an odd noise / rattle that's coming from either the alternator or the power steering pump. I replaced the alternator bearing but the noise is still present, so now the PS pump looks like the offending part.

I contactred ZF in Jhb and they do not have a single pump in stock, they suggested I send them the pump and they'll rebuild it for me, around R2500 depending on the parts required. Done a little googling and I se that pumps vary from as low as R800 to around R2000. Was also quoted R4000 for the new pump and labour. Problem is that no one will tell you what pump they are selling, therefore I just assume they're chinese - something I do not want.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a decent quality pump at a fair price, or is having the original pump rebuilt the preferred option.

Check that it is the PS pump first, they usually do a growl/whine rather than a rattle. I was quoted R950 on an E36 pump rebuild, with 12 month guarantee, in Durban. I would personally go this route if you can afford for the car to stand a little while. (about a week all told.) Good luck.
