If you looking for solidity id say E46 as I feel they were better built than E90.
E46 325i was almost perfect, performance, economical on fuel for a 2.5, reliable but a little costly to maintain.
but than again good luck finding a clean E46 for a reasonable price.

Not to hate on any of the 325i owners, but definitely shoot for the 330i. More power, very similar if not better consumption on a day-to-day basis. Price difference is also minimal.

if its pure reliability you looking for that will also be easy on your wallet everytime you fill up or service , it would deffinatley be an E90 320i, although they are a bit sluggish.

The e46 330i would be a better bet than a 325i, ceteris paribus.

I personally wouldn't go for e90 320i. Issues with oil leaks and valvetronic are well documented above 150k. The fuel consumption isn't justified for the power of the engine... I share your sentiment on it being sluggish, small engine coupled with a heavy body.

E46 330i gets better fuel economy than a 325i,because low down torque.

Don't believe me, as Gizmo what is consumption is. I recall correctly it being somewhere around 8.0l/100km. My best is 9.8 but average is 10.5l/100km

My indicator is around 8.8l/100km, that is with a fairly mixed cycle including a bit of traffic in the mornings and afternoons. The best was around 7.5l/100km if memory serves.

Msport or nothing......

E46 Msport looks better than an e90.

Less issues on the D e90s. e90 323i,325i, 330i best in Manual
E90 320D/330d Manuals a few/ Auto gives you an awesome drive.

I enjoyed my e46 320i more than my e90 325i.

But yeah.....The car with Msport, good service record and clean visually will get my vote...Be it the e46 or the e90.

Sorry for only responding now, I did howerver bought a 330D....what a pleasure!

Driven it for 8 000km in the last, almost 2 months, with no problems.

Just need to replace the rear discs in the coming week, and pads, but that's it, for about R 2800, which seems reasonable.

Will post a picture shortly, still can't believe I'm driving a 330D E90, defintely was aiming at the 320D.

Makes me sleep like a baby at night!

Had the same situation - almost bought a newer 320D, but decided to rather get the 330D. Definitely the right decision for me :joy:

Awesome! Never thought I'll buy a Diesel car anyway, bakkies yes! What a joy!

I see you're profile is a X5....is that next? :p

Was standing next to one this week, in Cape Town...amused by the beautiful vehicle...couldn't made out the badge or front due to traffic, when it pulled away, it was a brand new X5 and did it go!, I had a late start, but could keep up at least....

My next BMW is defenitely either a much newer 330D or X5, although my dream was always a M3.....think I'll rather take a chipped new 330D, overall driving pleasure is better and performance difference not extreme, unlees I can offcourse afford both :praise:
