E46 MFS controls working intermittently

Hey everyone. My E46 MFS controls for the radio/CD (left side) work sometimes and then othertimes do nothing. Is this a loose wire ? It's driving me nuts. The cruise control is fine though.

Have looked at how this works yet, but I where to wager a guess I would say it is possible for it to be a loose/broken wire, or it might also be the slip-ring that dirty or damaged.

Just remember to disconnect your battery if you are planning on removing the steering wheel, this is to prevent your airbag warning light from coming on.
