E46 M3

I failed to mention that the car has new brakes all round with Powerbrakes fitted in the front. I can compare it to the Z4M's CSL brakes and honestly the M3 has equal stopping power however is much smoother and less noisy in doing so. I am thoroughly impressed by the powerbrake setup.

Thanks Guys

The battery seems to be not lasting long now. I'm going to address that this week. I still owe a forum member a visit to pick up stock springs to raise the car back to its original height.

That way I can use it more as a daily :)

I had some of the silver carbon vinyl left over from my 350z so I decided to put it to use.

Howsit Andy. Where do you get the silver carbon vinyl from? Is it a good idea to use on the dash sills, around the radio, etc. As an alternative to the carbon wrap. Reason I'm asking, cos my interior is black, would like to spruce it up with some silver

So after spending some time with other S54 nutters last Night I developed an itch to work on one :)

So herewith some pics.

The victim of my DIY. The current E46M3

Air filter box removed

Pollen filter tray removed to gain access to rear part of the intake manifold

And the intake manifold removed. Lovely watching those throttle bodies

And another pic pointing out the idle control valve. This is the extent of the diy I wanted to do today. Clean the throttles and icv.

Intake Mani out

Some pics of the dirty ITBs

The residue that you see in the last 2 is just some itb cleaner from liqui moly. It took a while and a lot of tlc and elbow grease but I managed to clean them up nicely.

The throttle acutator I pulled down and held it open using a vice grip. This gave me access to clean the rear end of the butterflies as well as the deeper recesses of the throttle body. I also took some snaps to show the rough surface deeper inside the throttles. I believe this is to promote swirling and mixing as its right in front of the injectors.

Mirror like finish

I don't want to speak too soon, since it could just be the cold weather talking... However the throttle response is improved, and it seems like the midrange acceleration is stronger. I'm keen to drive long distance tomorrow to look at fuel consumption.
