Hi guys,

Just wondered what sort of prices one might expect to pay for mint condition original spec (ie no mods) E46 M3 Coupes.

In searching the web, it's quite clear that there are prices being asked that make ones eyes water then there are the sensible prices which appear to be in the range of between R199k to R245k; mostly the variations are mileage related.

There's one minter I have seen that has an asking price of R330k:skit:

And a convertible at R489k:skit::skit:

Would welcome expert feedback.

Thanks

I think the R200k to R250k region should land you a nice example...well depending on jus how you mint you want it to be.

R330k is E92 money.

I sold my almost 3 years ago now , was a minter and I got R275k.
So as Xack said, probably in the 200 - 250 range should be good.

Interesting topic ... so if I may suggest that those who have sold their cars to please put in what justified that price.eg. mileage , extras, new subframe, new engine, bearings ..
U get the drift. Basically a general indication as to what dictates the price you sold your car at. No judgement. Just finding the trend if any.

200 to 250 and it will go up in my opinion....

Look at the CSL, nothing below 600 on the market, that one is even having 164000km...

Xack if I may ask, what mileage is on your E46 and if you were to sell what would you want to get?

Don't answer if that puts you on the spot. However, it may set an example of what I mean. Everything has a value. But also a price. The two are not necessarily the same thing.

Put differently, the guy asking R330k for his unit may say that's my price and its determined by the value to me. That may not have any correlation to the market price.

Equally, if I go along and the car is mint and I can afford it it may be a purchase from the heart and not the head.

I guess it depends on what your definition of 'mint' is, what your mileage preference is, and how much you care about properly de-risking the car. There are many factors that influence the price of an M3, and simply finding an unomolested car that is still original with no accident history is not the easiest thing to do on its own.

Buying the car is one thing, but to properly de-risk the engine, you need to have valve clearances set, VANOS overhauled, and rod bearings changed. That is rear subframe notwithstanding. So these costs need to be factored into your budget if you are looking to do things properly.

and when the bearings and VANOS are done, its all about condition then mileage means nothing:praise:

jus thinking now, i've got some scracthes on my car,left fender, bladdy bushes got to make a plan to get it out

Hey iam on 166k right now, my car to me, is a Gem, its the right colour; "Silbergrau" with the right interior "Anthracite Black " and the right Wheel...now its not perfect, iam doing the bearings in DEC, Vanos in Feb, i've had offers made by a couple guys purely based on the way it looks of between R215 to R220...lots of guys love the look. To me, if i had to sell i would probably end up searching for another one like you are doing now, its hard to part with these cars once you own one. So i wount be selling anytime soon, youll find something nice, have patience

I know of a good example (stock) in Cape Town with 95000km going for under R250k. It is manual, pre-facelift and Phoenix so probably worth a look if you are interested. Car is at a dealer in Diep River - Car Emporium.

Its on my radar:=): Thanks:coolShake:

There's a Phoenix Yellow unit advertised in Durban (looks like the photos were taken at SMG Durban or is it Forsdicks Dbn cnr Somtseu Rd opposite Magistrates court)

This car has had a lot of things replaced (Quote "Recent 180k Full mechanical overhaul at BMW agents. New Diff. New clutch, New brake discs and pads all round. New spark plugs, new ignition coils, New coolant pump, New power steering pump")

The car looks mint but the alarm bells are going off. Why would a car with only 61000km's and a FSH at BMW need the replacement of the above items ??? unless it has been raped:skit:

And then there's the price. R330k

PS: When was the "facelift"? What year.

Cars with manufacture dates after 02/2003 are facelifts. This generally means *some* 2003 models and all 2004 onwards.

Main differences are LED rear tail lights, different boot handle, lightweight front bumper carrier (kevlar), xenons as standard, updated climate control unit.

I was browsing the ///M models and happened to chat to the owner who is a smous at SMG where the car is. It's neat & had everything done mechanically as preventative maintenance.

For the price he is asking I would expect proper Michelin or Contis but he has Falkens which don't do justice to the car. The interior is not my cuppa tea but he is willing to adjust depending on what the purchaser will offer.

From what he said, that car is accident free & has no comments.

honestly i have asked this same question before,however i had seen approximately 30 - 38 examples in and around south africa before buying mine,it depends alot on those cars the colour,extras,mileage model and condition,they have a tendancy of tearing the subframe under neath the boot,so to find one that hasnt been repaired is rare,as for bearings,these cars are not like the v8 m3,they dont really throw bearing issues,so long as the car has frequent oil changes,driven at right oil temperature,and the right viscosity oil being used,to put u into perspective,if you buying a 2004 and upwards model with harmon kardon,and rear blinds,with underneath 100k mileage,and no comments on vin,be sure to pay atleast 260 to 270k ...depending on wheels and colour combo and interior condition for that mileage,if you have diamond cuts or original csl wheels,fold up mirrors,and or sat nav in the car expect to pay between 300 and 360 depending again on mileage and colour .....i paid 280k for mine,and i paid it with a smile because of mileage,condition,colour and model aswell as extras....if you buy at low mileage and full service history ....be sure even at that price ul recieve a decent trade in....i was offered 245k on trade in at bmw supertech ......so which means the overall concept was welcomed by even the dealerships,things of caution is that in durban i know of people who are chopping mileage,and spraying seats to make them look new,but again suspension rubbers,colour and staining of undercarriage,carpets,engine idle noise,steering ,vibrations,scuffings on panels,l.e.d on headunit,headlight and tail light condition all will suggest to you more than enuf to judge whether or whether not the condition meets mileage ....

another important thing to take note of is adaptation table values.....if u understand the concept of adaptation table on bmw .....ul know how hard the car was driven,all u need is a launch machine via OBD or an auto boss system and ul know more than enuf on the condition of the car .....
