Hi, I am looking at purchasing a 2003 E46 M3 that is out of plan. The car has 90 000km. How reliable are these cars after 140 000km? do they have the same vanos problem like the E36 4 door M’s?

What are the common faults?

hey bonedM3, owning a M3 out of m/plan shouldnt be much of a problem provided the car is not
abused, i guess that is where the hype of heavy maintenance comes into play. for example to
do the braking system for the front and rear will cost around R10 500 without labour.
How much is this M going for? if u dont mind me asking.

Ideally, you should take a look at the cars history, as you know BMW can provide that to you, My car is currently out of plan, and (touch wood ), I've had no issues thus far, my car is checked for error codes very often. I know of a few people closer to the 120k mark and have reported no major issues beside the normal brake pads and disk replacement etc.

The history report to provide a clear indication if you getting a dog or not.

the report from BMW is your best bet as long as the car was always serviced by BMW. unless owner increased the motor plan car has been 2 years out of original plan.

at 90 000km thats good mileage for an 03.. all depends on the price the owner wants.
