all about how much you want to pay.

M3 +-2003 +-120000km = +-R200K
E90 non lci +-100000km = +-R250K
E90 lci +- 50-70000km = R300K+

given option 1 or 2, I would go with 1 IMO

Forgot to mention your option 2 (to a lesser extent) and 3 will still have motorplan

That could be important to the OP

oh... and get the 320D

Ok I agree with Twinz lol. Here's my suggestion, any e46 m3 want to go for a race so we can help our fellow fanatic decide :)

im going to throw a curveball

what makes the M special is suspension and a diff... both cars are quick so if you have the right suspension setup and an LSD in the 335i it can be a very similar experience to the M3...

buuut i love the e46 and the e90 is just not the same... so its a very hard choice...

Ok for those that are chatting about track, the current clubmans track racing champ is converting from E46 m to 335i motor, the man has been building race and road cars for the past 50 years, just some food for thought:)

:flyfun: not another one of these debates

the x35i is not boring so if you say that you are not a true petrol head even if you claim to be one. the m3 may be more exciting on the track but i for one dont spend much time on the track if any.

each to their own but trust me when i leave the e46 m3 behind on the road that m3 driver will wish he had bought the x35i. and if he doesnt then he made the right choice in purchasing his e46 m3.

+1 Enough said

I like the 335i alot but it looks like every other BMW motorsport on the road except for the exhausts.
The M3 stands out and is definitely a lot more fun to drive. Since I am basically looking for a toy and not an everyday car, but I will alternate between my two vehicles, I am also not looking for any prizes or trophies......just some fun, I think the M3 will be the best choice..

Now to find a clean (standard) white one? (that's another story)

335i with mods vs M3... beats M3 in straight line speed...

M3 with mods.. all bets are off.

Compare apples with apples gentlemen, not JB4 335i's... albeit they are cheap and far easier to mod.

Even though I would give certain body parts to own an M car, given the choice between the E46 M and a 335i, I would most certainly go for the 335i if and only if it still has a fair amount of motorplan left!

Mods are easy and plentifull and gains are exceptional! A little suspension tweaking and mods and you'll have a VERY capable car.

Biggest difference must be the technology changes between the E46 and E90 series'.

You'll find a more refined and advanced car in the 335i.

BUT there is that M factor that you can't modify onto anything else, and that sets the M cars appart from anything else, no matter how old they are.

Another thing to keep in mind is what the value of the specific car will be in say 3 years' time... I think the M will hold value much better and they might have the same value, which means you'll end up losing less on the M.

Tuff choice bud! Good luck making the right one!

Thanks some good advice here. Since I believe any modified car devalues I think I will sleep on it for a while. Its definitely a hard choice....and by the latest nonsense Ive been through with 3 different "buyers" and their empty promises about wanting my 325i, maybe I just spend the money on it and modify the you know what out of it......... 100k to 150k can but a lot of mods.

Besides it will be a nice sleeper..... :)

Ultimately the decision is yours.. Test drive both, organise maybe a side by side look at each car, and whichever makes you tingle and smile like a girl from the inside, that's the car for you...

I recently took a test drive in a E46 M3 SMG and a 6 speed manual, All I could say was WOW!!! There are no words to describe the feeling I had!

The E46 M in my eyes is a legendary M3, I own a German Spec E36 M3 I have driven the V10 M5 and for me the winner is the E46 M by far in terms of the feedback the car gives you! it has all the little gadgets you need, its incredibly responsive and it sounds like a super car! There is nothing short of a ferrari or Lambo that produces the beautiful tones that the car produces, it screams at speeds and purrs when its ideling! its one of the most awsome cars I have ever driven if not the best! To me it felt like a super bike with 4 wheels! That is the best way I can describe what the car felt like to me.

The 335i on the other hand (And im talking the Coupe) is fekking sexy looking car, and with a drop, nice mags and a few little upgrades here and there it can look really beautiful and very aggressive! with Software and a few other bits and bobs it teleports you from A to be in pure luxury and Style! But I do belive that it looses Value incredibly quickly and as others have said every other person has one! so its a very common car these days, if that doesn't bother you then a 335i is a great car but personally I would rather go for a 135i as it seems to look a little more sporty and obviously its lighter so will be a bit quicker so if its a fun toy your after then a 135i is definately not a bad choice, they also seem to cost a bit less than a 335 coupe from what I have seen lately on car find and the likes.

Modding a Turbo car is obviously allot cheaper and quicker too. But in the long run I think a M is allot of fun!
