Well well well... this intake manifold wasnt so bad after all. Hidden away are in fact laminova cores :)

But first the measurements of the current runner diameters

I would bore the runners correctly and also add trumpets
looks like the runners just end inside the manifold with nothing to smooth airflow?

Decided to take the fuel rail off as well and investigate the fuel smell. It only happens at high RPM and WOT.

It looked like injector no.2 had come a little undone.

Also noticed the hose from the icv that normally goes to the intake manifold wasn't connected

This is a man with a lot of free time.

How hard is it to swap out the high beams? Changing the xenon bulbs were easy enough on mine, but the high beams looked like i would either need smaller hands or remove trim.

Speaking of ICV, Should I connect it to the intake manifold or block it off? At the moment I blanked off the part that normally goes to the stock manifold.

Since this car does not run a MAF anymore, you dont need to connect it to the manifold. Cant block it off, because then it wont idle. But dont leave it open to the environment, because it will suck in dust. Fit a little filter to the ICV like they do on oil-vapor-catch-cans.

Thanks Chris, After doing some more reading I see the supercharger kits installation guides normally fit them back onto the intake manifold. Even though it will give a positive pressure? Not quite understanding it but thinking I should try it. I'm also contemplating moving the HKS Blow off valve onto the intake mani and away from the discharge pipe to try and minimise the blow back.

Exactly my thoughts Andy. You need to eliminate that charger surge.

Putting the blow off valve on the intake will fix that. Also, all the intake manifolds that I have seen on supercharger kits run the ICV back into the intake.

Good luck and enjoy DURBAN!!!

Removed the one blow off valve on the manifold and connected the icv on that location. Kept the HKS bov on the charge pipe. Also rerouted the vacuum line and removed the T piece. Surge sound is virtually completely eliminated.

Also increased the manifolds port inner diameter by around 4mm.

Had the injectors serviced with new seals and pintle caps. Stripped the laminova cores and made sure they were clean (which they were) and aligned them correctly with the open face toward the airflow.

And then one more cosmetic change to the car. I quite like the look :)

This is before they were oriented correctly

Andy how is the car setup to read air flow? does it have a Maf?

Nope, Alpha-N with MAP sensor - or at least that's how it was set up previously.

Haven't Changed much on the car. Just enjoying her as a Daily. Achieving around 400-450kms on a tank. And it includes some spirited driving.

Just to share some thoughts from my slightly better understanding on the car now. It is running alpha N however there is no MAP sensor. Purely RPM+Throttle position and Intake Temps are used. Combined with EGT and AFR.

I would like to think a MAF setup would do better. I'm tempted to go to Durban with this car but also scared shitless it will pop.

the way I understand it EGT and AFR are useful for fine tuning but its kind of like testing your toilet water to tell you if a meal is good instead of smelling and tasting the meal before you swallow

personally I would rather have more intake data for the ecu because it allows for faster changes to be made

from what I have read using a Maf does pose some problems because of resolution on a boosted car
Alpha-N makes life easier and seems to work not sure what effect having no Map sensor would have on this

after you broke the M5 going to DBN I would also be worried about taking this one down to where the air is good

But man that M3 will be a really stupid down at the cost, should be tyre shredding , my guy that built her recond that the cost the car will be safe as the oxygen is more down there and he had some calculations and he assured me it would be within safe limits. :dunno:

What the..... Wow Andy car looks and goes well. I'm off the forum for a while and look what I've missed. I'm almost to scared to ask what else has changed. But none the less. Congrats I'm sure as with all you other projects this one will end up being EPIC.

Thanks Alain I'd like to speak to him to pick his brain. I'm just scared it will run lean from too much air.
