E46 M3 Lamda sensors

Bought my ///M last year, thought it was stock however exhaust been changed to an aftermarket Arvin exhaust (who make the OEM system, strange?), stock tips + sound and BMW picked up a chip. Not on motorplan so no problems there.

The Mechanic noticed the Lamda sensors have been removed. Now can anyone tell me how much this will effect power if the chip hasn't taken this into account. I know the air fuel mixture will run richer to protect the motor if the software isn't "calibrated" for the removal. Is that right?

Why would someone remove the Lamda sensor? Was this someone who didn't know what they were doing?

Bit of a rookie so would appreciate some clarity on this one.

Cheers:thumbsup:

if its secondary lamda sensors that are missing then no it wont affect power.
But maybe the car was tuned accordingly so We need to run some logs when you're in town and see exactly whats going on. :thinker:

I also remove my lamda's after i did the chip! Reason i did was now i can use avgas, leaded fuel etc! All the lamda does is close loop cycle to keep your Air fuel ratio 14.6 on cruize
If its properly mapped there will be no power difference with or with out!

Hello, I have a simular problem, I have a 1998 328I with Pre-cat sensors.
I got the car as a junker, rebuild everything into another car.
My point is, the car must run on a Pre-cat. When I checked, My Branches was changed to WILDCAT branches with a freeflow, NO PRE-CAT sensors.
I think that the previous owner fitted the exhaust system and chipped the ECU, (IGNORING the Pre-cat sensors)

Are the secondary Lamda's just before the CATS? Is the primary Lamda by the branches?

Need to get the car on a dyno and see what is what. Tashen will give you a call as soon as I get back. No.1 priority.. hahaha

Well the e36 328I work like that,

2 Pre-cat Sensors, Located ether on the branches or on the downpipe, (Before the CAT sensors)
Some versions - (Talking under correction)
Have 2 Post-Cat senors aswell)

If you find out about the whole ECU chip theary, Would you keep me up to date. I fitted the original ECU & 2 Pre-Cat senors back.

@Bmw328... will keep yo updated as soon as i know. expecting the worst as his wasn't disclosed when it was bought and I bought it off the owner of a dealership. I suspect the gearbox was also acting up and he may have sold it for this reason. Oh well:bawling:
