E46 M3 : Gear Shifter Popping Up and Loose

So I was driving along and had to shift from 4th to 5th. As I did, I felt and heard a loud whack sound on the gear lever and the whole thing popped up. I could no longer select 5th gear or 6th gear.

You go through all the emotions when something breaks on this car. Mostly because the Bank Manager will be calling. Anyway,

I managed to get home in 3rd and took this video clip.

I havent had time to strip it further yet. Do you guys think its the actual lever or worse?

i think it could be that dreaded Ball Socket at the base of the Shifter

Lol this happened to me at ODI..u can jus push it down into position, you'll get 5th and 6 again... check the link Thiren posted, I had mine swapped out when I did my clutch
