E46 M3 for E36 M3

The E46 M3 is better then the E36 M3 in pretty much every way.
I prefer the looks of the e36, and the e36 is noticeably lighter, which give a much sharper and more precise feel. The e36 is probably a little cheaper to maintain too, but I dont think thats a major consideration of alot of the serious buyers out there.

But other then that the e46 is a superior car. It all boils down to nostalgia, alot of the people who used to own one, want one again. Its just that now they have become pretty rare in good condition. Im sure in 10 years time, people will be looking for e46 M3's in the same way.

:fencelook: What makes a 46 'superior'?

The extra power? The looks? The electronics?

I mean, I do have an e36, I have driven a 46 too, but I feel the driving experience too refined and modernised in comparison to a 36's direct approach. The E36 M3 is such a well developed and tuned car! :praise:

I think most people are scared of a 36, this car is the original widow-maker after all... :fencelook:

S54 is a masterpiece
e36 chassis is floppy when compared to e46
If you want raw there is the e46 CSL

list can be much longer these are just a few items i can think of now

Is the e36 an awesome car e46 took it further... there is no reason not to love the e36 but you cant ignore that the e46 is awesome also...

Like I said, superior in pretty much all aspects. Just the few things which I mentioned stand out on the e36 as being better.
But I also think the e36 also isn't a much of a handful as a lot of people make it out to be. If you drive like a tool, sure it will bite you. But in the big scheme of things, 286hp isn't that much anymore.
That being said, I would probably miss the the e36 more as a wanted a e36 more then I wanted a e46 when it came time to purchase.

I know the guy, he is from my area.

The only reason that he wants to swop is that he regrets selling his mint 4dr M3 for the 4Pipe. Every time I see him with the car he tells me how much he misses his 4dr.:nonono:

Sharp,

Manny.

this is exactly why i have 2x4 door M3's
one with a short ratio diff and one with a standard diff so its like having two differant cars

The best is the one that makes look like this when you are behind the wheel

And to be honest if I had to choose between the 2 cars now, I'll take the one with the best colour combo. :fencelook:

Interesting discussion.....

I think they are both awesome cars in their own right.

But one will appeal more based in personal preference I guess

1) E46 is More expensive to buy, more expensive to maintain
2) E36 4 door properly tuned can run with an E46
3) E46 handles better (thanks to the nanny)
4) E36 is harder to drive (my 60yr old mum could easily drive a 46..not so much the 36)
5) E36 is harder to drive well (as a result of the above & the nanny stuff)
6) E46 has the best sound
7) E46 has the best wheel arches
8) E46 has 4 pipes
9) E36 has best standard wheels EVER...you just dont change them for anything

I'd drive an E46 as a daily, the E36 is definitely only on weekends

So if the 46 is about R100k more than an E36, is it really R100k better car??

If you pay R150k for a 325is and lets say R60k for a good E36 328i.

Does this make the 325is a R90k better car???

Nope.

Demand drives price. The E46 is a much better car than the E36 for sure, but pricing is not indicative of how much better.

The E36 m3 is older and was the pinnacle in it's day and improvements led to to the much more refined E46 M3. In years to come the E46 technology will also seem obsolete with the new models that will be released.

It is R1m better looking, R2m more grin factor, another R1,5m in bragging rights for owning a Ltd edition legend...so the R150k is a bargain:rollsmile:
