e46 jacking points

Hi all

Does anyone have ANY idea of an appropriate jacking point for the e46 (318i) except the standard points. Mine are pretty much useless after 7 years of existence. Also, would the dealer be able to replace the OEM points? Just imagining having to change a flat at night in some dodgy area and not being able to jack the car...:mmm:

Any comments/advice is much appreciated

Do you mean that your jacking pods are worn out/broken?

Get new ones from a scrapyard. The old ones has a pin right in the middle that you need to pry out with a flat screwdriver and then you just pop the pod out.

My suggestion is to pull them out and keep at least one decent one in your boot with the jack.

IMO, it's easier to slot them in when you need to change a flat, than to discover they've been damaged or missing when you need it. Of course you would need a torch in the dark to figure out where they go, but that takes like 2 seconds ....

3 of mine were missing and after scraping the last one on a speedhump, I realised how they dissappeared in the first place. Luckily the last one was not badly damaged, so I pulled it off and keep it in the boot. You don't really need the central pin unless it's going to stay on the car.

R257 at the dealer...I bought one, 1 week later I lost it again after hitting a bump :)
They gave me a 2nd hand one free, lol but its slightly smaller than my other 3, serves its purpose though

@Moranor there is a smaller one that you cannot even see if you looking at the car from the side compared to the normal ones that protrude slightly. The one I got given free from BMW is smaller and hidden, I kept sticking my hand under by the jack point for a month to check if its still there :)
Maybe take one of yours out and go scrapyard hunting, so you'll know when you come across the smaller one.

That's why I keep mine in the boot. Don't wanna get stuck one day and realise it's gone. Even if you check it every few days, Murphys law states that it WILL fall off exactly one day before you need to jack the car up in an emergency :hammerhead:

Was about to ask you for some platinum with the diamond studs, but my oil well dried up :)
image walking on th road and picking up that one next to s speed bump :)

if you have the part i can easily make a mould of it and cast it in many different materials in most cases

hmmm, some jacking points in high density rubber (like an ice hockey puck) might do wonders...
