E46 EML light on - NO POWER-

Hi guys! Thought I'd hit you with some new challenge today. SO I got my car back from SAC three weeks ago, everything running smoothly. On my way back from work yesterday i saw that i'm running on empty and just, just made it to a small little fill up station. Fueled up and continued home, though it felt as if the car had n little less power after refueling. Anyway, got home, went to work this morning - came back home, jumped into sivvys and on my way out again the eml light came on as i started the car....NO POWER... took it around the block, switched it off and on eml light was down for 2 seconds then switched on again. Took it all the way to the gym, 2 hours later i came back and the car was fine -no light and power back. So has anyone have any clue what it might be?
I'm thinking my fuel filter could have been clogged up or something.

P.S... failed to mention that after i filled up i could smell petrol fumes inside car so i'm guessing it spilled with fuel up. Don't know if it's relevant to situation.

All they did was decat, recalibrate the propshaft as it had vibration and gave it a unichip.

Okay, some new light on the subject. It seems to be intermittend when i switdh on or off the aircon. Could it be something to do with the ICV as this is the only thing that could be affected by the aircon?

most lightly SAC have put the O2 sensor in the wrong way around causing the management to freak out...

or if you car has pre and post cat sensors you might need cat foolers or mini cats to make the car think the cats are still there...

if you have tools they not hard to swap over do you know what they look like?

no idea...but i've got the air intake off....near the icv now...is it somewhere near there?

Okay so i opened up the intake box to have alook at the maf which is clean by the way...and i also wiped the throttle body. Put it back together, light still there but now i also notice a single long beep near the intake when i turn the key to acc... it last for about 10 seconds and the it stops. Not sure what that means. Maybe it was there all along and i never noticed it. Funny thing though, as soon as i started the car again I smelled petrol fumes again.

If they were swopped around, the fault usually occurs after 200-300KM's and not immediately.

Maybe get your codes read first - that should point you in the right direction. SAC should have the tools that do this, and not charge you for it, seeing they did the job that potentially caused the problem.

sorry Peertjies i had to go last night and did not know if you were still on...

the O2 sensors are on the exhaust...
if you have axle stands and a spanner set they not hard to swap over just make sure to twist the electric cable so you can tighten it without stressing it...

if you dont have tools then take it back to SAC and tell them what happened and that its probably the O2 sensors that were switched accidentally... they should do this for free... dont let them try sell you anything till you have tried switching them around...

Thanx guys. Took it to SAC this morning. They told me it has something to do with the valvetronic system. What is funny though is that when i start the car after long period (5 hours or so) of not running, everything is fine. Only when I switch off and restart immediately afterwards does it go into limp mode...BUT when it is in limp mode, i switch off, do the throttle adaption reset and start it up again....goes like a boeing!

so is SAC sure they put them in the right pipes? because if the sensors are in the wrong ones it could easily cause what you are experiencing because the 02 sensors are used to regulate a fueling...

with them in the wrong banks your ecu will get confused by the readings and try to adapt to make you car work...

I would probably want to swap them anyway to eliminate the possibility before you move on to other things... its literally a 5min job on a ramp...

So I got word back finally, and it's not good news...They say that it is my sensor on my crankshaft giving problems and that the quote is R6000-00 to replace. On top of that, they let me know that the there could be additional charges if the problem still persist after the sensor is replaced, as they then need to attend to the rest of the system management....
So to me it sounds like they are speculating and if whatever they do does not sort the problem out it's gonna cost me money for everything they replace up until it is sorted. Is my understanding more or less correct?
Any ideas guys?:flyfun:

If that fails take it to zaleonardz@DentDoctor for him to have a look least he wont spin fairytails about what the problem is...
