E46 Central locking issue

Hi

I have a 2003 E46 318i and it has a very irritating central locking problem. Quite simply, the central locking randomly decides to not work and then I cannot get into the car! I can use the key to open the drivers door but I cannot get the passenger doors open. It is so bad that people have to climb in the window or crawl in from the drivers side. I have taken the car to 2 separate dealers and each one has promised that the problem has been fixed but within days its back. The last repair was at JSN Motors in Bryanston and they said that if their repair didn't work they would have to replace some central computer unit for R8 000.00 !
Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can get this problem fixed without having to pay so much??

Many thanks!

i'm sure you can use the door handle from the inside to open the door -it normally pushes the button up and then opens the door ? ? ?

Unfortunately that doesn't work either, the doors seem to be deadlocked and will not open! I can push the consol button and the button on the remote but the doors stay locked!

On extremely hot days, I have exactly the same issue with my E46 320i's central locking system, and no solution in sight.

Yes I have found that if I park outside even for a few minutes it even worse. Park underground over night and everything is perfect!

Try increasing the fuse size on the fuse box for central locking by 10 amps... will cost just a few rands and may resolve your issue... :fencelook:

Apologies, I forgot to mention that I had a similar issue on my e90 320d, turns out the fuse was too small even though according to spec. Read up and replaced the fuse with a 20 amp as opposed to the original 10 amp, everything was normal again.
