Hi Guys,

Just another update.

Below is a picture of someone that used a very similar case to mine, except mine is not as tall as this one, but I will use the same installation for the box..

You will also noticed on the middle picture that the PC will be pulling in clean air.

45-compy_final_installation.jpg

Cool, but make sure when you cut the carpet to do a nicer job than that guy did!

Most definitely, I am going to check if I do not need to cut the carpet, so that when and if I sell the car that I can just remove everything cleanly and leave no trace.

jeeez. NEVER select DHL as your courier of choice when importing, they charged me R561.00 for customs on the bloody LCD. The x5's LCD's customs was R78.00.. Now they are saying because it's an LCD they are trying to force ppl to buy locally rather internationally..

There hasn't been an update yet, after fighting with DHL over the customs fees, I decided to just pay it and get the LCD, it will be delivered tomorrow.

It's just kind of weird that I have imported over 20K of parts the last 2 months, from different countries, and different types of parts ..
It usually gets delivered by EMS that accepts cash on delivery / and they deliver and let you do an EFT afterwards, and the total customs I paid to date with them has been around R1500 for everything. But no, DHL OVERCHARGES on shipping and hold your items hostage.

I will be stripping the car the weekend and be doing the mod. Will take loads of pictures, and post as I go along

Thanks to everyone that subscribed.

That is totally ridiculous. That is why we never use DHL. :fencelook:

Yeah. and to top it all of, when they phoned me to "explain" how they calculate it, they threatened me that if I do not pay them, they will send it to the government warehouse, and additional fees will be put against the item.. Very very bad service, NEVER AGAIN.
The shipping and customs on that screen together is over 1K.. Will not use DHL again.

That is so wrong... I work for a courier company. And I happen to know that they cannot send it to a government warehouse. They put it on credit hold. Basically just keeping it until you pay. There is a loophole though. If it is insured goods you can claim up to R5000 if they decide to keep stuff. So basically they pay you and they keep the goods. If the value is below the claimed amount, you score. If the value is higher, then the courier company scores. I know allot of our clients try this trick and some of them actually succeed. Depends on the terms and conditions signed. :thumb:

Haha, forgot to attach, and added the pic 4 minutes after your comment :)

Anyways, so I received the screen, when I got home and opened it I almost burst a vein as I thought It was only RCA cables that are supported, but once I cooled down I looked further in the box and the remote an extension to VGA/USB was there luckily..

The screen has 2 extra RCA's that can be used for camera's, only thing that's bothering me is once pc shutsdown, a bluescreen is shown with "NO SIGNAL", looks ugly, will try to find a work around, otherwise I will order a new screen next month.

Also, seems the french guy that sent the facia to me, can't give me any details on the location on the location, luckily ebay is very security wise and will refund me without questions asked, but I do not have the patience to wait another 2 weeks.

Does anyone know where I will be able to find one of these facia's locally?

Will upload the pics of the LCD tomorrow

Yes just the bezel in the pic above. The price does not matter, do you have a link to his site?

Hey
Sorry I missed your reply. Here is the link http://www.janus-design.net/english/
You have 2 different bezels one for a LCD screen and one for the double din. I have the DD which won't work for your project. Very good quality product

Thanks bud, just want to check if I can get it locally, I'm eager to get the project finished.

I have actually read up on this previously before I started my project, thanks for the info

Sorry for the delayed project, started at a new company on the 1st, and haven't had much time on my hands, anybody in BI Dev would understand.

Anyways, everything is here and working except for the bezel, and some small gadgets, like reverse cam, and GPS dongle.

So Vsomai has convinced me to make the bezel myself. I will begin with this tonight and will take pics as I go along with planning ect, hopefully this will be done by the weekend and I can start the installation

So i didn't start the bezel last night, i sent someone to buy me body putty and returned with body filler, after an argument with the salesperson they assure me that its the same thing, i just hope so..

I removed the radio last night, but couldn't remove the climate control panel, will remove them tonight,

My method for making will be the following:

Use foil over the climate and radio, and smear some patty over the foil. (I am thinking the foil will be the easiest to remove)

Then after the thin layer has hardened, i will fill it up abit on the other side after it has been removed, hopefully this will give me a more accurate start to the bezel. I want it to look totally OEM and not like some "gomgat" did it..

I will use a file to get the proper look i need, and then sand it, just need to go buy the proper beige the weekend so that i can paint and gloss it according to the trimmings in the car.. Think this will be the most difficult?

Any suggestions to this would be highly appreciated.
