E46 Carputer project

So I thought of buying myself a OEM look double din navigation/bluetooth system from ebay, but luckily at the time the specific user didn't ship to SA, while I was waiting for him to update his shipping, I thought I might rather do a carputer, I googled a bit and came across some awesome projects.

I am a ebay fan even though I am in SA, products are more reliable, more trustworthy sellers, and superb prices.

SO I ordered most of the parts already, but can't seem to find a e46 climate control relocation unit for right hand driver vehicles.

If anyone knows where I can find this, please let me know..

After this project is successful I will be doing it to the E53 X5 as well, the stock navigation is disgusting.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

I looked everywhere for a relocation unit, Steelers wanted R1700 ex for it.

Eventual found one at a scrap yard for R50 bucks. Had to plastidip it but now looks fantastic.

The relocation unit is not essential, you can still put the AC controls below just wont sit "vas".

Thanks a bunch, found 2 on ebay uk, but not sure what when they say there is a 16mm version and 18mm version..

I just ordered some nice pioneer sub and audiobank amp along..

I take it you also did a carputer project?

Will most definately do, once I start I will make a step by step on what I did. I am also planning to hack the electronics of the car so that I will be able to control the windows ect via the screen / pc.

16 mm is all in one buttons, 18 mm is separate buttons:

16mm

18mm

Update:

I found a 16mm but used a dremel to make it 18mm.

these days its easier just to buy an Ipad or similar device and fit it into the dash , sorted lol.

I don't fully agree, i have the new ipad with a window mount, but its irritating to fit it each time getting in and out.

The carputer will do so much more, as well as constantly read my odb2 ect.

Fook me, big case for carputer

Yes it is, but there is a purpose..

The special amp 4 x 50w and the special power supply will also be inside there, but it still fits perfectly, will be on the right hand side above the battery, or might check if i can fit it where the cd changer goes,

I will be using centerfuse as the main software for the carpc. Will be using alot of usbs and want to be able to run tomtom navigation software and display pip movie, or even other software.

Def sure rasp wont be able to do that? And centerfuse isn't supported on android, unless you can suggest anything else?

Everything will be tested before had, if there are any heat issues. I will order the 43mm casing from lian-li, super small.

Ok, I'm am very keen to watch this, I already ordered my rasberry pi. I have the dynavin look a like unit with aux in and I have the control schematics so that I can use touch screen to control the rassy. If you need any help just shout I have ripped the car apart and I know the best routes for cables and stuff.

Do the spare wheel sub enclosure. Save as much space in boot as possible.
