This is a good topic. Id say go for what your wallet can say ok to. I personally would not buy a willard, or sabat. Id spend a few bucks more and buy a Deltec. Deltecs are great quality batteries, and they last very long.

if youre going to spend R1500 on a battery, id say dont buy the oem bmw battery, but rather buy an OPTIMA battery. Either the yellow top or Red top optima is great. Ive had a red top for the past 4 years. there were times where my car was parked for 3 months, got in, swung the car and started first time out. the optima red top is used widely in the agricultural industry, where the tractors and other farm vehicles sometimes arent used for a long time.

my money would go for either a Deltec (cheaper than the optima but still a very good battery) or Optima.

Remember that CCA (Cold Cranking power and aH (ampehour) make a difference in the battery you choose for your car. too low cca or ah would result in the battery straining to start the car, thereby reducing the life of the battery. but having a higher cca or aH wont damage your battery.

no problems bro. look up Deltec on the net. I think that they have an outlet in gauteng. They also stock optima. Any good battery shop should stock Optimas. you would also find Optimas at good Sound Installers (people like Moniers, Hygrade, etc. im not familiar with the fitment centres in jozi, only being here for the past 4 months).

Locally produced batteries for BMW are made by Sabat who are the same company as Willard.

The other brands Exide, and Raylite are manufactured by First national battery. I have taken batteries apart for fun and I'm interested in the technologies.

The FNB stuff is very well made.

I had the small red top.

R2300 is kinda steep, but the yellowtop is usually more expensive than the red top.

the small red top has all the power youd need.

if they decide to try and rip you off, opt for a Deltec battery. theyre great batteries also.

Hi Everyone, any suggestions of a supplier, in the Johannesburg area, for a replacement battery for my 2005 E46 320D.
The OEM one is giving me hassles now that winter has rolled around so I need a replacement. Agents want R2500.00 for a replacement, which seems a bit extreme.:RedNo:

Thanks,

Ian
