Hi all
I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.

Desperately need your opinion.
I recently bought a E46 330i, car won't start. Mechanic says there's no fuel on the passenger side, but full on the driver side.

Fuel gauge indicates about 1/4 still on the tank. He initially wanted +R5K for a new fuel pump, then said he'll get a 2nd opinion from an auto electrician.

What could be causing this?

check fuel pump relay

Make sure pump comes on,

Check Sender unit float on passenger side

i think MD House in wynberg has non-OE pump's for about 1500...

Pump works fine,according to him.
Just no fuel on the passenger side to pump.

To what extent could this be caused by fuel filter?

The siphon pump transfer fuel from one tank to the other. It tries to keep the return tank empty. That can explain one tank being full and the other empty. The thing I cant remember is which one is return tank. I suppose drivers side is return tank which would mean you could be having a problem with the siphon pump. I think thats what its called.

yeah, i dont think your pump is the issue. theres a return line that comes from the passenger side of the tank, to the side where the fuel pump sits.... that line once got disconnected on my car and the car would run empty on quarter tank too.

let us know how it goes!
