every 330i and 325i i have seen has Duel exhaust all the way... i think maybe some of the early 330i came with a single?

325i is not listed as ever having the single exhaust

328i is 60/80nm up on 325i, their difference isn't in HP, it's in torque, and because NA, they both put their torque down right in the beginning of the RPM's.. more torque letting it get to and use that HP quicker than the 325i.

BUT a 325i will be anything from 1-5 years newer than a 328i ALWAYS, so depending on condition, the 325i might be putting down virgin power. Haha.

This is all just my assumption, nothing more

I would love to see what a 330i intake cam does in a 328i... major problem with the 328i is it has the same head as the 330i but also the same cam as the 2.5l so top end suffers

rest of the head is the same from 2.5l/2.8l/3l so the intake cam could make a big difference on the 2.8l

Interesting take, my 328i is an auto though...I wonder if there were any differences between the 325i and 328i auto gearboxes.

Anyway, back to topic: 320i.

+1

Revving those cars is purely out of aural satisfaction than anything else.

325i is 245 nm and the 328i is 280 nm. Not exactly a "60/80" nm difference.

A 328i is much closer to the 330i than the 325i. And the 325i gets raped by 330i's.

Don't put too much value into figures on paper........one glaring mistake..the top speed are given as the same, 240km/h, the 325i can't get to that due to the rev limiter, and I know of people that have tested 328i's to be able to get a little over 240km/h.

Agree.

The top speed shown at 240 is just the announced top speed, not the tested top speed. The tests referenced for each car show that the 325i can only get to 235.

What is nice about the link is that it's multiple sources - the 325i has 2 and the 328i 8. These are mostly magazines who test the cars. You can convert the dual into a match and have a look at the best/worst times for each in comparison.

Still, the real test is not numbers on paper. The link is just interesting. :)

Loved reading this thread!

I love the rasp I get at 4k rpm on my E46 320i under hard acceleration. Drives me nuts, but I'm wondering what kind of changes I should expect if I straight pipe the car? And what would that cost me today?

Do you get the raspy exhaust tone on the 320i? Anybody know if the golf tee mod is possible for it?

The 320i does not have an exhaust flap, so no golf tee mod is needed. I had the exhaust cats on my 320i removed, the engine has a deeper voice with a slight rasp, I just love the new sound. Once I can get the time to get Moranor's branches fitted, I bet it will sound even better :blowheart:
