BMW and overheating? As expected as Sunday after Saturday! :=):

Ok, from my limited experience, start by locating the bleeder screws on the cooling system. Open them and fill water until it flows from the bleeder holes. Tighten the screws. Do this when the car is cold.

If it doesn't stop the heating, check each hose and clamp. If hoses were removed for repairs, it could be that it wasn't tightened.

The thermostat could have seized if it still overheats. Inexpensive repair.

And if all the above are in order, maybe a gasket is shot which is unlikely as your car was just repaired and the techy would have picked that up.

The above is just my experience. The real mechanics here will give you the ultimate guide. Good luck!

Either an Airpocket in the cooling system, or it might be the Thermostat thats not working, or even Waterpump.
