Hello All,
So i hardly post and love reading everything on this forum, thought i would start writing and fixing things on my car.
Took the car to Gizmo for a check up and boy what a check up it was 64k for parts from BMW :RedNo: and 2 pages of faults
So got off my lazy ass as i have been working on cars from a young age with my dad and uncles and started to repair things immediately.
Called one of my friends asked him if i can use his two post lift for a Friday afternoon and changed the engine mounts, gear mounts and prop shaft coupling or GUIBO. Quick easy job on lift hassle free. no pictures of all of that work.
Then i started looking at Gizmos list of parts and everybody that i knew for suspension parts,my father has been in the spares business for +/-40 odd years and he helped a lot but i landed up dealing with Sean from Axis, and all i can say is that 25 pages of e-mails later and excellent advise i went the Lemforder route and received all my spares this past Friday.
Now im sending all the bushes away to a friend that does all our machining work for the company to make tools installers/extractors for them, (future goal rent out the tools & start doing work from home for extra cash to buy more tools and parts)
So as soon as i have all the tools then i will start tackling the rear suspension.
I also have the dreaded oil tappet cover leak, also no pictures of the repair and no new tappet cover or gasket i managed to stop the leaks with out using TONS of silicone sealer
I stripped the tappet cover off and cleaned everything gaskets tappet cover side of head etc etc at my sister in laws house about 3 weeks ago and left the car to stand over night and cool down completely.Went through the next morning replaced the spark plugs with new Bosch ones and applied a very thin layer of Victor Reinz silicone sealer and reassembled everything, and to my surprise there was no leaks.Brought the car the work the next day used about 1.5 liters of the industrial engine cleaner yes it was that bad and dirty and touch wood no oil leaks.
Still have tons of work to do on the car thanks to the car breaking down in cape town on holiday got that repaired but then a TIK cop liked my car so much at my aunts place after doing some home renovations for them that he decided to break in the house early one morning and steal everything that he could from the car, luckily he use the key and did not break any windows oh and kept the key as well :YesNo:
I have only changed the breather pipe in the engine bay only so far, since i work in the mining/automotive industry called our suppliers to see if they can make me new power steering pipes and im in luck they do it all the time, so when i have the car on tresses again i will be removing all the pipes as they are all over "sweating", i will have to save up for a new bottle and that short hose from the top of the bottle that goes to the right side of the radiator.
If anybody can assist with spares for a Touring or knows where there are in any scrapyards i will highly appreciate it
Sorry for the long write up but i suppose its my time to share as well.
PS; anybody can recommend a good brake fluid as i only ever used Castrol as that is all my father brought for me, since seeing a have the Mityvac brake kit MV-6838 i might as well use it on my own car
