E46 320i Over fueling?

Hi guys

Some feedback would be appreciated.

After my last service (+-124000km) the car didn't want to start like it should. It would turn for a bit then sort of start and immediately die, then I have to turn the key again. It turns for a bit and starts with a bit of a shudder. When I drive off, there is a strong petrol smell.

The car is also quite a bit heavier on fuel. I used to average 550km per tank city driving. It's around 460km per tank now.

Please give me some advice.

is everything intact on your Fuel Filter and Pump Side ?


was the filter changed during this service ?


how does the engine bay look ? ( apart from a normal glance )

The car should not have a strong petrol smell, there is a leak, I am surprised the computer has not picked up the leak yet?

No lights on the dash or notifications from the car..

Check near your fuel rail. See if any fuel is leaking. Start the car and then have a look

Have it checked asap, I certainly wouldn't want to drive a car with a smell of fuel,potentially, literally a ticking time bomb.

I second that. Fuel vapour can ignite like noones business.

hi buddy definitly too heavy on fuel............... i have a e46 320i and on avg i get around 650-700km on city driving and close to 900km -950km long distance driving
