My e46 320i, with 225/40/18 front tyres and 255/35/18 rear tyres. are the alloy wheels the same size?

if i put 225/40/18 tyres in rear wheel, will they work?

with 225/40/18 front tyres and 255/35/18 rear tyres.

If your E46 has narrow/wides then the rear wheels will be wider than the fronts. So fitting 225/40/18 on the rears will work, but there will be a certain amount of stretching of the tyre shoulders. Those are the normal sizes for the E90, I would think for the E46 too, although I have seen 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 as typical sizes for narrow/wides for the 17" wheels...

Hallo,

Same question for same car, BMW320i E46 at the moment the car is running 225/45/17 for all four wheels. Will 205/40/17 or 215/45/17 fit as well, and what is the difference between the three? I have tried to measure the tyres and not to sound too dumb, is the 205, 225 and 215 the width of the tyre tread, and is it dangerous to fit 205's instead of 225's?

one needs to consider the rolling circumference of tyres, i.e the distance it covers when it turns one complete rotation.

A general rule of thumb is that it should not change by more than 3% than standard and should not be a large difference between front and rear.

use the following website to calculate tyres sizes and differences. Dont worry too much about the rim width and offset if you dont know it, just ensure they are the same.
