- hold down the left instrument button,
- turn the ignition key to position 1 (radio)
- test screen appears,
- keep holding the left instrument button
- after 10 seconds or so, the word 'reset' will appear with oil service / inspection
- let go of the button and press & hold again
- 'reset' will start flashing
- release & press the left instrument button once more while 'reset' is flashing

oooo ooooo, and how would i do this for the E36?

I would seriously suggest using a proper reset tool that you'll probably find on Ebay...

DISCLAIMER the following procedure is entirely at your own risk and NB you run the risk of frying the ECU if you get it wrong.....

Connect pins 7 and 19 with a paperclip for 4 seconds on the OBD port under the bonnet for oil reset

for service reset connect these 2 pins for 10 seconds or longer....

again you CAN fry the ECU if you get it wrong....much safer to get a reset tool
