Hi Guys

Does anyone know how the e46 320d pick up movement for the crank sensor? There no crank trigger wheel in the front apparently. Apparently its different to the other petrol models. Is there a trigger wheel hidden in the block perhaps? Apparently it uses the crank sensor for the ecu to give a rev counter signal via CANBUS.

Reason im asking is because, if I replace this expensive and problematic motor with a toyota motor which i can get far cheaper that a replacement 320d, i would like to keep the original rev counter working and to do this, the 320d ecu will need a crank sensor signal for the rev counter to work.

Regards
Nick

There is a removable increment wheel behind the flex plate where the crank sensor reads from. Hope that helps.
