So 5k later I got a new quantity controller and 2700 bar M550D rail sensor (really not necessary for a 2700 bar sensor because solenoid injectors can only handle 1800 bar, but I wanted to upgrade so I can run 1700 bar with some head room)

When the car was running again, I started digging into the tune. Got a hold of a stock file and compared the "5-Star graded RMI approved workshop" tune with original.

Didn't know what I was looking at so I started asking questions on ecuconnections, and they told me the tuner's file was de-calibrated (this basically means they trick the ecu, and don't use any math or logic)

Spent months on ecuconnections learning and talking to people, and they were of much much help. I even got offered a base tune with the correct injection angle and duration for injecting 110mm3.

Spent the next couple of months rebuilding the boost and N75 maps to cater for the hybrid turbo. Finally got it near perfect with little to no PID intervention and a boost curve smooth as butter.

The same day I popped a boost pipe...

7k for the pipe, from BMW only. Too expensive to import from EU.

So yeah, 4k to build new pipes and use a 335i Forge intercooler I picked up for 3.5k. Who wouldn't?

This got me down from 90° C charge air temps to about 10° above ambient.

Believe it or I actually had overboost again because of greater air mass. But happy to have tuned it to perfection again, myself (a 5-star graded unknown poephol)

Moral of the story, you pay someone a shit ton of money to tune your car and don't have a clue what they are doing and if they even know what they are doing.

We always go for the brands that are overly hyped, never doing proper homework. Today if I wanted to take my car for someone to tune, it would probably be RK or Madness. But one thing is for sure, they would have to give me a data log of the final tune before I pay.

So Wayne, how is the car after your last tune you did yourself and the various upgrades?
What power is it making now and what mileage is it now on?

I would be very curious to know who the previous tuner was ,without having to "name and shame" publicly. There are so many fly by night tuners these days

The lack of "name & shame" does not help the forum and the many members who make use of the forum.

Without us naming & shaming, people cannot make any informed decisions.
Rather post the info and let the other members make their own decision, they could possibly still make use of the company or deal with that forum member but perhaps just with some precautions in place.

I saw a post on another local forum recently where something went down and there was no name & shame, so nobody know who the forum member responsible is and this makes it riskier for other forum members. It does not help majority of the people on the forum.

I agree,I also feel like the responsible company's name should be mentioned, but more often than not it becomes a mud slinging contest.
